Dear Youth,
Every August, the Ministry of Higher Education
announces the results of the General Certificate for Secondary Examination.
With the announcement comes your enthusiasm and decisions to move upward in the
ladder of life and enrol in the universities. Each one of you have a
preference: Some of you will decide to go into life sciences (medicine,
agriculture, veterinary, biology, botany and zoology; etc) while others will
decide to move into physical sciences (Geology, geosciences, geomatics,
environment, architecture and so on). Some will decide to go into engineering
and the applications of sciences. Some of you will conclude to study social
sciences (economics, business and public administration, languages, history,
journalism, politics and international relations, sociology, psychology,
criminology, development) and so on.
In that moment, you are about to take a
significant decision for your life: To find out a programme that is your
passion, succeed in it and find out a qualified university that offers your
favourite university programme. This decision will be an important step to
shape your future.
Almaas University is a focused university. It is
a university that places the natural resources at its heart: land, water,
minerals, petroleum and energy resources. The university programmes deal with
the sciences, the engineering application, their management and their laws,
policies and regulations. In the future, the university intends to include
marine resources. With that strategic principle in mind, the university wants
to grow and address that Somali need.
This university is relatively new but it is
determined to grow fast and take its place as the strongest Higher Education
Institution in the country in terms of natural resources studies and
researches. In order to cater for attracting students with interests in natural
resources, the university has brought out natural resource subjects covering
the following:
• Sciences programmes: such as geosciences,
environment sciences ,computer sciences
• Engineering programmes: water engineering ,
Geomatics and civil engineering
• The economic and management sciences
• Health sciences programmes
• The laws and policies of natural resources
The above subjects are not available mostly in
Somalia. Only Almaas University spearheads this drive to educate the eager
Somali student in the above fields and as such it is a pioneer. For this
reason, Almaas University is preferred by the students from all around Somalia
and soon we intend to get students from elsewhere.
1. The university undertakes partnerships with
the industry: land, water, mining and petroleum companies (local and
international) and relevant government institutions. We want to foster
University-Industry partnerships.
2. The university mostly offers education in
English which has been the language of the medium of instruction and
communication. We are also thinking to open an English School within the
university that has partnerships with the UK. The school will offer IELTS
training and exam.
3. We also intend to establish a centre for
natural resources development and undertake research and training to build
capacities for the same purposes.
Once the student enrols in Almaas University,
the university makes every effort to deliver high-quality education through a
good curriculum, well qualified lecturers, laboratory and field education and
standard teaching, that provides opportunities to put the theory into practice.
Thus, we intend to transform the Higher Education of Somalia and raise its standards.
Thanks to the above strategies, our graduates
will earn a good place in their employability and opportunity to get work in
Somalia and overseas. While in the university, the student will be provided
employment possibilities through internships and partnerships.
We will support students while in the University
and continue to assist them after graduation. We will always keep them in the
heart and continue to do our best to support our students. With our life-long
contact, we aim to help our students to overcome the problems of life. We are
waiting for you to prefer Almaas University and enrol in its faculties and
departments.
